Kitty Pride and Lance Alvers' relationship had a rocky start. They both attended the same high school. The day Kitty discovered she had strange powers, some obnoxious girls trapped her inside her locker. She phased through it and landed right on top of Lance.



Lance quickly explained that he also had strange abilities, and tricked Kitty into becoming his friend so that he could use her phasing power to steal some test answers.




Right after Kitty joined the X-Men and Lance the Brotherhood, they didn't meet much at first. But when the new school year began, Lance made a concerted effort to get Kitty's attention. They both were in the same Chemistry class, which led them to talk more and more.


When Lance decided to join the X-Men, their relationship was cemented, Kitty finally realizing that Lance was really a good person. Even though Lance realized that he didn't quite fit in at the Academy (Scott's animostiy towards him being the main obstacle) Kitty decided to keep pursuing him.


With the Sadie Hawkins Dance approaching, Kitty asks Lance to be her date, and the two share a very eventful evening, Lance protecting her when they are attacked by Lava-rock creatures.
